Patios and Walkways in Cumming, GA

Flagstone, paver and natural stone patios, walkways and steps.

Flagstone patio and walkway beside a lawn

What it involves

What goes into it.

A patio is only as good as what is under it. Red clay holds water and moves as it wets and dries, so we dig out, lay and compact a gravel base, and slope the surface so rain runs away from the house.

We build with flagstone, concrete pavers and natural stone. On the site visit we talk through how you want to use the space, how many people it should seat and how it connects to the house and the yard.

People usually call us about this when

  • You want a place to sit outside that is not the deck
  • The yard turns to mud where people walk
  • An old patio has sunk, cracked or holds puddles
  • You need steps or a path down a slope
  • You want a fire pit or kitchen and need somewhere to put it

The scope

What we check on the site visit, and what the job can include.

What we look at

  1. How the ground slopes and where rain runs today
  2. Soil, roots and anything buried near the spot
  3. Doors, steps and how the patio meets the house
  4. Access for equipment and stone deliveries

What the work can include

  1. Digging out and grading
  2. A compacted gravel base and edge restraint
  3. Laying the stone or pavers and filling the joints
  4. Steps, borders and a drain where the site needs one

What happens next

How the job runs.

  1. Tell us what you want

Send the address, roughly where the patio goes and a few photos of the spot.

  2. We walk the site

We check the slope, where the water goes and how materials get to the back of the house, then talk through stone choices.

  3. Plan, price, build

You get a drawing and a written price. Once you approve it, we schedule the dig, the base and the stonework.

Price and timing

What changes the price.

Most of the time goes into the base, not the stone. We give you the schedule with the price, and rain can move the start by a few days.

  • The size of the patio and its shape
  • The material you choose
  • How much digging or grading the site needs
  • Steps, walls or drains that go with it

Questions people ask

What to know about patios and walkways.

Pavers or flagstone?

Pavers are even and easy to repair one at a time. Flagstone has a more natural look and every piece is different. We can show you both.

Can you build a patio on a slope?

Yes. We level the area with a small retaining wall or steps, and plan where the water goes before anything is built.

Can you fix our old patio?

Often. If the stone is sound, we lift it, rebuild the base and lay it back. If it is not, we give you a price for a new one.
